Good News, Bad News
Good news and bad news today... first ill go with the good news, our insurance cards arrived in the mail and that means my wife can remove herself from her work's insurance and be put on mine. This will save us approximately $45 per pay period. Ok heres the bad news... wife informed me that her work is NOT going to be paying for her maternity time off. Granted most employers do not pay full salary but they are giving her NADA and she has worked there for almost 5 years now. She just "found out" this morning from her HR department. So now we are not counting on her income for the next few months. This early news prepares us a little bit more for the baby in February. We were a little stressed about the news however I will just have to move a couple months of emergency fund during that time. We have got to be prepared!! Also on a lighter note, I put up the baby's closet doors yesterday. Her room is complete!

Most companies don't pay for maternity leave. They'll just secure your job for you. Women usually have to use their vacation time after they've had a baby, which is despicable. We are SO far behind most European countries as far as maternity AND paternity leave. Will YOU get time off that doesn't come from vacation? Here's a thought - have your wife check into paid family medical leave.
My work is giving me care of newborn child leave (ill post something shortly) for about 60 days. My wife says she wants to use all her vacation time, so we will still be paid for that amt of time. we are only looking to cover about 4 weeks of no pay at all.
Short term disability insurance doesn't cover maternity leave?
My wife says that short term disability insurance is available but maternity leave is seperate and she will take vacation and maternity leave during this time. Im sure other places will use the STD insurance if maternity leave is exhausted or isnt available.
